April 4 We found a bug. There were 9 glitches while producing the .txf file out of 520 transactions. Each was at the buy date, producing a high sale price.
You can check for errors by comparing the profit column in your Excel sheet to the "Gain/Loss:" listing in TaxCut.  This is done by printing the entire form with Schedule D entries to a .pdf file. Convert the .pdf file to a .txt file using PaperPort. Delete each line not including "Gain/Loss:" with a Basic program. Import the .txt file to Excel and compare the columns.
March 29 Under the new IRA rules, brokers are providing cost totals and wash sale totals. However, if you have multiple brokers, this data is not correct. Barrons suggests asking for a filing extension so everyone can figure it out. Our program still works for TaxCut, but there is a new check box for each transaction to indicate if the 1099 amount is correct or not! It also asks whether it is long term or short term although TaxCut previously calculated that for you. We are working on a program to calculate and enter these fields for you, but for this year, it looks like you can disregard it.
February 23 The on-line brokers all offer downloads of 1099s and in .txf files. However, they mix the option assignment prices with the stocks and are confusing. We suggest you download the transaction lists, verify them against and correct your spreadsheet logs, and use the spreadsheet to produce your own .txf
February 18 Most on-line stock brokers provide both an Excel spreadsheet and .TXF file of transactions.
Ameritrade - does not include previous years and combines option assignment costs with stock costs.     Therefore, the .txf file is not usable and you must make your own.
Scottrade - As of now, the .txf file is not available.
Etrade - As of now, the .txf file is not available. Combines option assignment costs with stock costs.     Therefore, the .txf file is not usable and you must make your own.
Interactive Brokers - As of now, the .txf file is not available.

February 2013 Some brokers show a "Wash Sale" amount with some transactions. There should be no wash consideration if you buy and sell a stocks several times in 30 days but the brokers do not make this distinction. Thererfore, we leave it to TurboTax or HRBlock to indicate wash. Or, you can do it manually. The wash amount is the last $ amount in each .txf group.
